Julian Galvan

Event #2
Pot-Limit Omaha Re-entry
Buy-in: $300 (+$65)
Total Entries: 73
Prizepool: $21,900

After coming in second-place almost one year ago, Julian Galvan grabs redemption at Harvey’s Lake Tahoe by his preferred method.

Stateline, Nevada (October 28, 2016) – Julian Galvan won his first career gold ring Friday afternoon by conquering a field of 73 players in Event #2: $365 Pot-Limit Omaha Re-entry. The tournament lasted two days and had a friendly vibe all the way through to the end, where Galvan was left as the last contestant alive. When asked how the victory felt, after coming in second almost exactly a year ago, the 30-year-old precisely responded.

“Amazing, especially because it is PLO,” said Galvan

Pot-Limit Omaha is undoubtedly in favor when it comes to Galvan’s preference. He stated that about 50% of his poker encounters are of the PLO variety and this two-day endeavor fit the bill. From the previous night to the following morning, players seemed very chummy with each other and comfortable throughout. Galvan touched on why this was.

“Just how the game is played is more relaxed in general,” Galvan claimed, comparing Omaha to other poker games, allegedly Texas Hold’em in particular. “It’s a less serious environment, more gamble, more fun.”

Galvan embraced the competition, playing against the notable Steve Foutty and heads up with an aggressive Bradley Miller who, at one point, had his opponent on the ropes. However, Galvan’s PLO experience catapulted him to an outright victory in the World Series of Poker arena. A resident of Sacramento, Galvan enjoys coming to the Harvey’s Lake Tahoe Circuit to visit with friends and plans to stay for the whole duration.

“I will be here the next week and a half, maybe give some of this money back… sounds like fun,” Galvan said in jest.

Although it is noted that Galvan is a fan of kitties, he played with the heart of a lion and came away as the PLO champion in Lake Tahoe. Along with the gold ring and $7,446 payday, Galvan has earned himself 50 points and is now tied for the lead in the Casino Champion race.

Here is a look at the overall results:

1st: Julian Galvan - $7,446
2nd: Bradley Miller - $4,607
3rd: Kindah Sakkal - $3,033
4th: Chad DeLanzo - $2,123
5th: Paul Hendee - $1,573
6th: Mark Rolandelli - $1,230
7th: Charles "Woody" Moore - $1,013
8th: David Stewart - $875

END OF DAY 1

A relatively small field of 73 players made up the single, Pot-Limit Omaha ring event of the series. Galvan came ever-so close to claiming a gold ring here at Harvey's Lake Tahoe during the 2015/16 tour, when he landed as the runner-up of Event #4: No-Limit Hold'em. He will look to accomplish what he missed out on nearly a year ago. However, four others seek the same achievement.

Play is set to resume at 2:00 pm on Friday.
