Another One! Chris Conrad Bears Down to Win Second Ring of Series
Event #9: $400 No-Limit Hold 'em Winner Chris Conrad
Just three days after winning ring number five in Event #7: $400 Pot-Limit Omaha, Chris Conrad defeated a field of 205 entries in Event #9: $400 No-Limit Hold ‘em to win his sixth.
“This one feels better. This is the game I’ve been studying and working hard at. Winning the tough tournaments online, they’re satisfying, but winning live tournaments is tough.”
Conrad also has an online Pot-Limit Omaha ring victory in October, so Thursday’s win marks three WSOP Circuit rings for Conrad in less than a month. This one comes with a $16,158 first prize to go along with his $10,655 for the PLO win on Monday.
Those two wins here come after a unique encounter with some of the area’s famous wildlife outside of Harvey’s Lake Tahoe.
“Someone told us to go at 3 a.m. to check on the bears in the trash cans. As we’re getting out of the elevator, we hear barking and people saying ‘Oh there’s a bear out front, there’s a bear out front!’ So, I go out to valet to get my car and sure enough, the bear brought up my car for me! We just followed him around a little bit y’know.”

As good as Conrad has played in winning these two events, he got bear-y lucky at the end to win the tournament.
The final hand saw Conrad’s 7s7s get in against Rigo Vangarelli’s ah7h for the win. Vangarelli flopped an ace and appeared a lock to double-up and survive. But with bear-ly any hope to win the hand, Conrad got the case 7c on the turn to win the title.
So, is the now six-time ring winner going out to get a bear card protector or something to channel the rungood he’s received since the meeting with his new furry friend?
“We just might, and we might have to come back to Tahoe.”
