Imran Sajwani Wins Event #1 for $31,679
The first event of the WSOP circuit series at the Grand Victoria Casino in the Chicago area has gone to Imran Sajwani who conquered a field 497 to come out on top with his first circuit ring and the $31,679 top prize.
Sajwani is from Chicago and up to now had just over $26,000 in career tournament poker earnings, meaning that this score is larger than what he had accumulated previously and blows past his previous high score of $8,574.
He remained steady throughout the final table, as he climbed back from a short stack with five left to take the lead when it was three-handed.
Crowd favorite Michael Shultz from nearby Buffalo Grove had a nice run to finish in third as his rail supported him throughout the entire final table. David "Guz" Guzman finished runner-up to Sajwani after entering heads-up play with a significant chip disadvantage to the large-stacked Sajwani.
