Attorney Brandon Guillory Brought to Tears After Winning His First Circuit Ring and $20,830

New Orleans, Louisiana (May 17, 2016) – Brandon Guillory just took down his first ever World Series of Poker Circuit ring, along with $20,830.  Guillory has two prior WSOP cashes under his belt from 2008 and 2013, both of them at final tables here in New Orleans.  Earlier this week he also scored a 21st place cash in Event #4, the $365 No Limit Hold’em Re-entry.

Guillory was born and raised in Opelousas, Loussiana, where he currently practices law.  He is the sole proprietor of the Law Offices of Brandon G. Guillory, specializing in personal injury and family law.  In July 2003 he opened his own firm, and given his profession he doesn’t have as much time as he would like to play poker. He will travel back to Opelousas tonight for work.  He said he is going to try to return to New Orleans for the Main Event this weekend, but makes no promises as it’s going to be dictated by his court schedule.  He also is planning a trip to Las Vegas this summer to play in the summer series, but is waiting to hear details on a few cases before he determines his exact dates/schedule.

When asked if winning this ring will change his work/poker schedule he responded, “I’m gonna play the same [amount of poker].  I mean, I’m a solo practitioner, I can’t get anybody to take my place in court.  I mean, I just play when I can…,” he said trailing off, “Not when I want… I mean I play when I can,” he said with a slight laugh.

Guillory came into the final table third in chips out of the six players.  When they got down to the final three, it took over five full levels before Neil Scott was eliminated in 3rd place.  It was then down to Guillory and WSOP Circuit ring winner/former November Niner John Nolan.  Guillory said that he had played with Dolan a few times in Biloxi and he knew that Nolan was a very accomplished player, but that he didn’t let Dolan’s stellar resume get to him.

“Cause listen, I mean, I practice law - that’s my job. I play poker, I’m good at it. I just take the mentality that I really don’t care who I play against, I just wanna play my game. I really don’t care how much money you’ve made. If you beat me, you beat me. If I beat you, I’m good.”

Head’s up play between Guillory and Dolan lasted two levels, during which two defining hands occurred.  The first hand occurred when Guillory was down to just 13 big blinds (400,000 vs. Dolan’s 2,200,000), and doubled with pocket jacks against Dolan’s pocket sevens. The second was the final hand of the tournament in which the chip stacks were almost exactly reversed. This time, at 20,000/40,000 blinds, Guillory was sitting with 2,200,000 and Dolan held around 400,000. Guillory limped on the button and Dolan checked his option. When the flop came eight-high rainbow, Dolan lead for 75,000, Guillory shoved all in, and Dolan called. Dolan showed six-eight of clubs for a pair of eights, but was unable to improve on the turn or river. Guillory’s pocket jacks held, and his rail erupted in loud cheers.

Guillory walked away from the table in disbelief, and a few minutes later he returned with tears streaming down his face.

“This is hard to describe,” Guillory said, “This is the best feeling of my life.”

Event #6 was the sixth of 12 gold ring events on the WSOP Circuit schedule at Harrah’s New Orleans, and the only six-max event.  It attracted 262 players, generating a $78,600 prizepool, and the top 27 places were paid. Day 1 play began Monday at 11 a.m. and lasted 21 levels.  Ten players returned to play Day 2, with Quang Hoa leading the pack (474,000).  John Dolan came in second with 417,000, and Neil Scott in third with 334,000.

The final table of six was made within the first 50 minutes of the day, and play concluded in Level 27 around 7:30 p.m.
