Clayton Jiang Wins in His First Ever WSOP Event

"This was my first actual tournament, before I was just playing charity tournaments. I just turned 21," said Jiang.

Elizabeth, Ind. (Oct. 5, 2015) -- WSOP rookie versus WSOP veteran - Clayton Jiang found himself as the rookie in a heads-up battle for the gold ring versus WSOP veteran, Byran Dillon. Event #4 - $365 No-Limit Hold'em was the first WSOP event 21-year-old Jiang had ever played in. Dillion, Jiang's heads-up opponent, has two WSOP Circuit gold rings and more than $200,000 in WSOP tournament earnings. Jiang was able to overcome the experience gap between the two to win a WSOP Circuit gold ring in his first ever WSOP event. With his gold ring winning performance, Jiang earns $9,450 and 50 Casino Championship points.

Jiang is currently studying political science at Vanderbilt University and is set to graduate this December. He has a job offer lined up for after college, but will first be attending his first WSOP this summer in Las Vegas. Jiang described himself as mainly a cash game player, but is transitioning and wanting to play more tournaments. He intends to play as many events as he can fit into his schedule next summer at the 2016 WSOP.

Dillon was not the only experienced opponent standing between Jiang and the gold ring when the final table started. The final table was littered with gold ring winners. In total, the final table players had seven gold rings between them coming into the day's action. Dillon had two, Duane Gerleman (4th place) had two, Kevin Davis (5th place) had two, and John Ford (8th place), had one.
