FIRST TIME RING WINNERS HIGHLIGHT RETURN TO HAMMOND, MAIN EVENT STARTS TOMORROW

Hammond, Indiana (3 March 2023) - The World Series of Poker Circuit has finally made its way back to Horseshoe Hammond, it's first time since 2020, with 14 gold rings awarded between February 23 - March 6. 

 

Hammond was always a key stop on the WSOPC calendar before the pandemic, attracting players throughout the Midwest and East Coast lines making it one of the larger Circuit stops. 

 

Thus far, seven circuit ring winners have been confirmed through the early events of the series with the results of the 8th event still pending.

 

The series has been highlighted by first-time winners and kicking things off was four-day multi-flight event

 

Event #1: $400 No-Limit Hold-em saw five starting flights spanned over several days, drawing a whopping 3,173 entries which created a $1,047,090 prizepool. Coming out on top was Trevor Bubolz who secured his first Circuit ring and a six-figure score worth $135,155.

 

Event #2: $400 No-Limit Hold'em saw another first-time ring winner find their way to the top. The second event drew 600 entries creating a $194,595 prizepool and saw Nancy Dang out-duel 13-time ring winner Josh Reichard to claim her first ring along with $36,443.

  

The ever-growing Seniors event was again a big hit as it attracted 464 entries and created a $152,460 prizepool. Coming out victor was Emil Zauld of Essex, IL who took down the ring and the $30,010 first place prize.

 

Michael Sabbia was next up on the winners list but unlike the first three, this wasn't his first-time striking gold. In Event #4: $600 No-Limit Hold'em Mystery Bounty, Sabbia outlasted 366 runners to claim his second Circuit ring along with $37,630. 

 

Over the next couple of days, three more first-time ring winners rose to the occasion. First up was Peter Kelly, who outlasted 202 entrants in Event #5: $600 Pot-Limit Omaha to claim the top spot for $24,849 while David Schonback made his way back to the Circuit after a twelve-year hiatus and ran through 932 runners to tame the Monster Stack for $52,756. 

 

After 12-plus years on the poker scene, mixed-game specialist Kenneth Po was finally able to get the monkey off his back after he outlasted 146 players in Event #7: $400 Omaha 8 to claim his first Circuit ring.

Event #1: $400 No-Limit Hold'em Multi-Flight - Trevor Buboltz (135,155)

Event #2: $400 No-Limit Hold'em Double Stack - Nancy Dang ($36,443)

Event #3: $400 No-Limit Hold'em Seniors- Emil Zalud ($30,010)

Event #4: $400 No-Limit Hold'em Mystery Bounty - Michael Sabbia ($37,630)

Event #5: $600 Pot-Limit Omaha - Peter Kelly ($24,849)
Event #6: $400 No-Limit Hold'em Monster Stack - David Schonback ($52,756)
Event #7: $400 Omaha 8 - Kenneth Po ($12,667)

 

The $1,700 buy-in Main Event is the premier event of the series and will be made up of two starting days beginning on Friday, March 3 at Noon local time. 

Day 2 will be Sunday, March 5th, and will be made up of the survivors from Days 1a and 1b, with the eventual winner being crowned Monday, March 6th.

The last time the Circuit was in Hammond, Shiva Dudani outlasted 989 entries to claim his second Circuit ring along with $278,078.
