The 44th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) ran from May 29 to July 15, 2013, from the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The final event of the series was the $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em World Championship that begun on July 6 with three opening flights. The 6,352-entrant field created a prize pool of over $59.7 million in the Main Event that paid the top 648 players.
Ryan Riess of East Lansing, Michigan, defeated Jay Farber of Las Vegas, Nevada, in heads-up play to pocket the $8,361,570 first-place prize and the coveted WSOP bracelet. Both players feature together in the 2013 WSOP Main Event Top 5 Hands video on PokerGO, while Farber is the winner of a monster clash on the final table when he fortunately finds pocket aces.
The countdown begins with two hands being played by two of the most aggressive players in WSOP history. The first involves Mark Kroon of Madison, Wisconsin, who tangles in a raising war on the river with just king-high. Anton Morgenstern of Berlin, Germany, is involved in the next two hands. One where he five-bets with eight-high late on Day 7, and another where he is dealt a cooler of flopping trips against a flopped full house before he inevitably is eliminated in 20th place.
