About the Winners
Event #1 - Chris Fuchs
Chris Fuchs, a Chicago native won his first career gold ring and big win after ten years of playing recreationally. The 41 year old outlasted a massive field of 2,563 entrants. Fuchs is in IT Sales which he will be calling in sick tomorrow to.
Fuchs came into the final table as the chip leader, James Gregg who he defeated heads up was among the shorter stacks after bagging the chip lead on Day 1C. Fuchs said he “stuck it out most of the day, I got a lot of good hands, I got the cards and ran well”
This is Fuchs fifth year playing the Hammond Circuit series and he was thrilled to score his first WSOP ring. He says he wasn’t planning on it but is now going to return next weekend for his shot at the Main Event.
Event #2 - Kennii Nguyen
Kennii Nguyen won his third career World Series of PokerCircuit ring Sunday night with a victory at the Horseshoe Hammond. Nguyen won Event #2: $250 No-Limit Hold’em Double Stack, earning $17,027 for his victory.
“Nowadays winning a tournament in No-Limit Hold’em is pretty hard.. I played Event 1, I went deep and had my aces cracked by ace seven, he hit a flush draw. Then my friend told me about Event 2 and I jumped in”
“It was up and down for me, I came into the final table as the shortest stack. They were playing crazy so I just let them, all I had to do was say ‘call’ a few times. The final hand played itself.”
On the final hand Nguyen cracked Andreas Halikias’s pocket aces with king jack… a little poker justice.
“It feels awesome to win my third ring, the first one I won here at Hammond was the Pot Limit Omaha, I’m going to go play that one now and try to win again.”
Event #4 - Bryant Miller
Bryant Miller scores his first career win and World Series of Poker Circuit ring. He topped the 172 entrant field to earn $23,918 for his victory.
The 21 year old says he got into poker from watching it on TV when he was five years old. “I remember watching it and I fell in love.. playing a game for money”
He took the three hour drive from North West Ohio yesterday and will be driving back with hardware. He says he plans on returning for the Main Event this weekend. As far as future plans go, Miller says “I’m going to play a few more years then I don’t know where life will take me but I love it.”
No events have been completed yet. The first event is scheduled to end on Sunday October 14th.
Event #5 -Jordan Helstern
Chicago native Jordan Helstern, who started playing poker at twelve years, old won his first career World Series of Poker Circuit ring. His victory at the Horseshoe Hammond, wasn’t an easy one. Helstern came to the final table as the chip leader and claims he set the record for doubling up his opponents. “I kept trying to stick it in, we were all gambling a lot. That’s how I got a stack”
WSOP Bracelet winner Ben Keeline asked Helstern if he was getting it in good or bad and Helstern said “Mostly bad.. I came in last six ways at one point”. Helstern says he loves to play Omaha and played till 10:00 AM this morning, and was subsequently late for todays restart.
Event # 6 - Mo Nuwwarah
Mo Nuwwarah, hailing from Omaha NE, won Event 7: $600 H.O.R.S.E., earning his first career WSOP Circuit ring and $14,008. Nuwwarah, a member of poker media, came into the final table as the chip leader but it wasn’t an easy road to victory. Nuwwarah endured three hours of heads up play against Michael Hanson.
“It was a long battle, it was back and forth. I was down to nine bets, then he was down to five bets then he came back. It’s limit poker you just have to go through the swings.” Nuwwarah says he prefers played mixed games over Texas Hold’em. “I like the all of the Stud games, not a fan of Omaha 8 or Better but thats what I won in, so I like it more now”
Nuwwarah, turned 32 years old today and celebrated his birthday in victorious fashion. At the start of heads up play around 9:00 PM Hanson joked that he needed to stick around until after midnight to outlast the “birthday run good”. Nuwwahrah made it with five minutes to spare as the final hand ended at 11:55 PM.
When asked what his plans for the ring itself are he said that he was going to give it to his mother
Event # 7 - Josh Reichard
Josh Reichard won his tenth career World Series of Poker Circuit ring Tuesday night with a victory at Horseshoe Hammond. Reichard won Event #6: $400 No-Limit Hold’em Monster Stack earning $38,392 for his victory.
“It feels great, this was especially fun because it was a really friendly talkative final table everybody had a good time.”
Reichard came to the final table with a commanding chip lead. “There was one point where my buddy [Chris] Conrad on my left got a double knockout so he was close to me in chips. I lost the chiplead for a little while but I hung in there, won some all ins, got lucky in some pots and it ended up working out.”
Richard wanted to shout out to his dad who taught him to play poker, his wife for being so supportive, and Amanda Heidbrick for letting him win King Queen to Ace King before the money.
Event # 8 - William Watson
William Watson is the champion of Event #8 at Horseshoe Hammond, defeating a field of 220 players to win the $600 Six-Max. The victory is Watson’s second on the WSOP Circuit, he won his first exactly one month ago a Seminole Coconut Creek. “It feels good, it took a lot faster to get than my first one. I’ve been playing poker for nine years.”
Watson enjoys the six-max format “I love it, there’s more space at the table and it plays faster.” Watson came to the final table as the shortest stack, he doubled through the chip leader two-time ring winner Blake Whittington and ran that momentum to victory. The heads up battle against Whittington was “Long, hard and tough. I ran really good heads up though, I can’t complain”.
The Lexington Kentucky native took home $30,592 for his victory.
Event # 9 - Tyler Payne
Tyler Payne won his first career World Series of Poker Circuit ring Thursday evening with a victory at the Horseshoe Hammond Casino. Payne came into Day 2 as the chip leader and had a smooth ride to victory “It felt like it was mine the whole time, no tough spots or bad beats.”
Payne beat a stacked final table that concluded with defeating bracelet winner Kevin Eyster. “I thought I missed my opportunity at Cherokee when I bluffed it off in 7th.. I was wondering when I would get another opportunity, and to come right back and redeem myself, feels great”
Tyler Payne won his first WSOP Circuit ring but it wasn’t the most important ring he received this year. One month ago Payne married his wife Korissa. “She one hundred percent supports me the whole way”
Event # 10 - Wendy Freedman
Wendy Freedman won her third career World Series
of Poker Circuit ring Friday night with a victory at the Horseshoe Hammond. Freedman won
Event #10: $400 Omaha 8 or Better, earning $12,197 for her victory.
She started heads up against David Larson by saying “I’d like to see you win, I just don’t want
you to beat me.” When it seemed like the heads up battle would never end Larson said
“Eventually the blinds will be everything-everything and then we’ll have to go home." Larson
got pocket kings against Freedman’s pocket aces and won twice but it was Freedman who
prevailed. She said “It was to fun play against him, I’ve known him forever he’s one of the first
guys I’ve ever played poker with.” This is Larson’s second runner-up finish of this series.
Freedman started Day 2 at the bottom of the chip counts with only one and a half bets. She made
it to the final table at the middle of the pack. “The final table was a lot of fun, I had a really good
time. So much can happen, I came in as the short stack and the cards fell in my favor”
Event # 12 - Craig Trost
Craig Trost, from Madison, WI has just won his very first WSOP Circuit ring. Trost took down
Event 12, the $400 No-Limit Hold’em Bounty Event. Trost finished second to Leevy Yoesep
earlier this year at Potowatami, Milwaukee and it left a bad taste in his mouth. “It was really sad,
I had a huge chip lead heads up and got crushed. I ran really bad.” This heads up however was
very different “It didnt last very many hands”
Trost says that his heads up opponent Michael Ma was “Short most of the day and worked his
way through, we played a big pot earlier in the day where his ace king made quads against my
pocket aces” It all worked out for Trost in the end, “This one feels good”
Trost earns $16,335 for his victory, as well as the gold ring. He wanted to thank his wife Megan
for being “Super supportive.. I’m happy to have her in my life.”
