November 28, 2018 (Las Vegas) - Travis Dorsey is the latest ring winner of the World Series of Poker Circuit, taking down the Planet Hollywood Main Event for a cool $168,722. This is Dorsey's third ring and his biggest cash to date. He also secured a seat into the 2019 Global Casino Championship.
There were a total of 518 entry slips sold for the main event, by the start of Day 3 the field had dwindled down to just 12, with Dorsey sitting around the middle of the pack. It was not until the final eight when Dorsey found a a shift in the cards he was dealt. "I was catching a lot of cards, it's easy to feel confident whenever you are catching a lot of cards."
This was evident as Dorsey was playing every other pot, and winning almost all of them. Once ahead he never let off of the gas pedal on his way to taking down the event. He was on a heater and when asked about what started it, he said," The set of fours against Brent Roberts, ace eight against Zinan Xu really started my rally and i started playing way more hands, getting into a momentum."
Once Dorsey started his momentum swing, he could not be stopped and would end up eliminating five opponents from the final table. The first elimination against Roberts was what completely turned his day around, turning him into a three-betting monster without fear. Despite having a few large chip swings after that hand, he kept true to his style and would take another leap forward after knocking out Jared Griener in a race.
Once in the driver seat, everything just seemed to come easy for Dorsey. Zinan Xu moved all in and Dorsey had an easy call, having his opponent dominated, taking out another player and pushing him into a heated three-way battle. He would start three-handed in second, but just after a few hands he would take the lead, with a win against each of his opponents in back-to-back hands.
Daniel Strelitz would be the next player to take an exit when he moved all in with ace nine against Dorsey's ace king. It was now times for heads-up play and Ryan Tosoc would be about a 2.5-1 dog to being play. After just a few hands the players would find all the chips in the middle, Dorsey pushing with his ace high and Tosoc calling with his king high. The board ran out dry as Tosoc was eliminated from the tournament, receiving $104,319 for his efforts.
Dorsey was asked about how much it means to win his third ring and what it means to take down this event, "It feels good, I get to play in the WSOP Global Poker Championship and I can also catch up on some sleep" He replied. This event marks his biggest cash to date, taking home a first place prize of $168,722 as well as his third ring in the process.
The tournament started on Saturday with 204 entries for Day 1A. Mike Del Vecchio was the chip leader of the 38 that bagged during the first flight. Day 1B attracted 314 runners, with Brent Roberts coming out as the leader of the 67 that moved on from that flight. The remaining 105 played a total of 10, 60-minute levels before bagging up for the final day and it was Daniel Strelitz who would be leading the way at the start of Day 3. It took just under two levels of play before the unofficial final table was assembled and Dorsey would officially win it during the sixth level of the final day.
There were four bracelet winners to make the money including Ben Keeline (52nd - $3,014), Robert Peacock (49th - $3,014), Ankush Mandavia (34th - $3,633), and Barry Shulman (12th - $12,627).
