Patel finishes Day 1B with more than 100,000 than his closest competitor
September 16, 2017 (Biloxi, MS) - After two days of starting flights, Kevin Patel heads into Day 2 of the World Series of Poker Circuit IP Biloxi $1,675 no-limit hold’em main event with a massive chip lead. At the end of Day 1B, Patel’s bag was the heaviest of the bunch by a wide margin.
Day 1B finished up on Saturday night and Patel put 330,000 in the bag. He’s got a lot of distance between himself and the rest of the field. His closest competitor is Tony Cusimano, with 229,000 in chips.
Patel became one of the bigger stacks shortly after the dinner break, but during the last level of the day, he separated himself from the rest of the field.
“The table change late in the day got me 100 grand,” said Patel at the end of the day.
Chris McLean (210,500), Eugenio Pernia (203,000) and Cody Stanford (198,000) round out the top five chip counts heading into Day 2. The top four spots all played on Saturday for Day 1B, but Stanford finished Friday with the Day 1A chip lead.
The initial seating arrangement for Sunday will lead to some interesting pots being played as Cusimano, McLean and Pernia are seated next to each other at the same table.
Other notables to secure a spot in the Day 2 field include Warren Sheaves (177,000), six-time ring winner and bracelet winner Kyle Cartwright (166,000), Bob Beck (125,000), TK Miles (101,500), Tom Franklin (90,500), Jeter Brock (76,500), three-time ring winner Johnny Landreth (72,000), Justin Harvell (61,500), Steve Karp (61,500) and Tim Burt (27,000).
When level 13 started on Saturday evening, registration and re-entry closed for the event and the field size and prizepool were official. There were 146 entries on Friday and 197 entries on Saturday to bring the total field size to 343 entries, which generated a prizepool of $514,500.
There were 25 players that survived Day 1A and 40 players that survived Saturday’s action. There will 65 players coming back at noon on Sunday and making the money will be the first thing on everybody’s mind.
The top 36 players will receive a payday of at least $2,666, but the eventual winner will take home $118,332, a Circuit ring and an automatic seat into the Global Casino Championship. The money bubble is expected to burst early in the day and the field is scheduled to play 10, 60-minute levels before they bag up for the night and play to a winner on Monday.
Not everybody was fortunate enough to secure a seat for Day 2’s action and plenty of familiar faces were unable to put chips in a bag in either of the starting days. Six-time ring winner Vincent Moscati, six-time ring winner John Holley, five-time ring winner Caufman Talley, four-time ring winner David Nicholson, Charlie Nguyen, Chris Conrad, Russ Head, Joshua Lowing and Blake Purvis were just a handful of top players who weren’t fortunate enough to survive to Day 2.
