From a starting field of 1,164 entries, just 22 players remained in the
Main Event at the conclusion of Day 2. A couple milestones where met during Day 2, many competitors fell, and others made strides to the top.
The money was reached halfway through Level 18. The bubble burst was a joint affair. Jesse Cohen went bust against Jeremiah Fitzpatrick's pocket aces. During the same hand, at another table, seven-time gold ring winner, Robert Hankins lost to the rivered ace of Pearlman.
Some other notables that fell during the second leg of the tournament were reigning Casino Champion at Harrah's Cherokee, Marshall White, eight-time gold ring winner, Ari Engel, and gold bracelet owner, Chance Kornuth, who began Day 2 as the overall chip leader.
There were two, Circuit title holders, each with one gold ring, that did survive the day. One is Daniel Pearlman, who had a red hot start on Sunday. Pearlman rose to the top of the rankings early on, but is in the bottom half of the advancing group. Corey Bierria is the othe ring recipient. Bierria doubled up in the first two hours of the day and never looked back.
Notables within the final 22 include Jason Gooch ($130,000 in earnings), Hunter Cichy ($250,000 in earnings), and Lytle Allen ($360,000 in earnings).
Mike Amato leads the advancing bunch with 2,765,000 in tournament chips. However, Josh Horton is right on his tail. Amato took Day 2 by storm, jumping over the one million mark by midday. He went on to take out a number of players, including Tony Lay in Level 21 and Trey Walton in Level 24.
The handful of competitors will restart at 12:00 pm Monday for a decisive Day 3 showdown. On the line is $318,646, 50 Casino Championshp points, and a coveted gold ring.
