Bell Gardens, Calif. (March 27, 2015) – For the second time this WSOP Circuit Season, Scott Stewart won the title of Casino Champion. He earned the title at the Bicycle Casino after making two final tables. He finished 6th in one event, and won the ring in the other.
Just a month earlier, Stewart became Casino Champion at the Horseshoe Tunica. At that stop, he also earned a ring and finished 6th in another event, and also made a deep run in the Main. Obviously, Stewart’s been on an impressive hot streak this season. In addition to his accomplishments at Tunica and at the Bike, he has two other final tables, including a victory. In total, for the season so far he’s made 7 final tables, won 3 rings, and earned over $100,000.
Stewart is a jovial, fun-loving player who constantly keeps both himself and his opponents entertained at the table. He credits this attitude and approach to life with helping him achieve his recent success. Just a few months ago, he was working full-time selling cards. Then he decided it was time for a change. He said after his win, “Now that I’ve quit my job and just said ‘I can do this,’ I think when you’re traveling and having such a good time doing it, good things happen.”
Of course, Stewart’s skill, experience, and practice have helped him get to this point, too. When asked what gives him an edge in tournaments like this, he explained, “A lot of people are inexperienced later in tournaments. But I know what I’m doing at every stage of the tournament.”
Stewart jumped into the lead in the Casino Champion race after earning his ring in Event #5 ($1,125 NLHE). Combined with his previous final table performance, that gave him 72.5 points and pushed him ahead of Edward Liu. Liu had 60 points from a ring victory and a 10th place finish. After Stewart took over the lead, neither he nor Liu earned any more points, and they eventually finished first and second, respectively.
Usually, the title of Casino Champion carries with it a free entry into the WSOP National Championship. Since Stewart has already earned his entry—thanks to his previous Casino Champion run at Tunica—an extra at-large entry will be added, based on the season-long leaderboard.
Here are Stewart Scott’s results from the Bicycle Casino:
