Chuck Wanyek passes Flight A chip leader, Ryan Van Sanford, for the overall chip lead.
Baltimore, Md. (March 7, 2015) -- Both starting flights of Maryland’s first ever World Series of Poker Circuit Main Event are in the books and as the field moves to Day 2, everybody is chasing Chuck Wanyek. Wanyek bagged a massive chip lead on Day 1B, finishing the day with 272,900.
Over Friday and Saturday, 657 players made it out to the Horseshoe in Baltimore to put up their $1,675. But after two full days of play, the field has been trimmed to 210 players. Late registration is still open until cards get in the air on Day 2 and for those players who haven’t fired two bullets at it yet, there is still time left to get into the tournament.
As play moved towards the midway point of Day 1B, the staff announced that they would be putting a $1 million guarantee on the prizepool. The 657 players registered so far have generated a $985,500 prizepool, but official field size and prizepool information will be released after the start of play on Sunday when late registration is closed.
Wanyek heads to Day 2 as with a monster chip lead over the rest of the field and more than 110,000 than his closest competitor. After remaining steady throughout the day, a rush of cards over the last two levels ended up with him bagging the most chips in the tournament.
Joining Wanyek at the top of the chip counts are Ryan Van Sanford, who bagged the chip lead at the end of Day 1A, Kenneth Zuspan, and John Kostelac. They bagged 159,100, 152,400 and 151,500, respectively.
The field was littered with pros that made their way to Baltimore and many of them advanced to Day 2. 13-time Bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth came up short in his bid for his first Circuit cash on Friday, but came back to fire his second bullet on Day 1B and made it through the day with 66,400 in chips.
Other notable pros who made will be back on Sunday with hopes of a Circuit title include Dennis Phillips, Darryll Fish, Amanda Musumeci, Casino Championship leader Justin Liberto, DJ MacKinnon, Joe McKeehen, Austin Buchanan, Steve Karp, and Roland Israelashvili.
Not everybody was as lucky though, with lots of top pros hitting the rail. Vinny Pahuja, Ralph Massey, six-time bracelet winner TJ Cloutier, Jake Schwartz, Jean Gaspard and Timothy Miles all hit the rail on both of their bullets in the event.
The remaining players will come back to the Horseshoe on Sunday at noon to play Day 2 and play through the money bubble and near a final table. A full list of the chip counts can be found in the reports tab, but here is a look at the top 10 chip counts heading into Day 2:
