WSOP GOLD BRACELET WINNER
EVENT #16 – JAMES RICHBURG
The winner of the $2,500 buy-in H.O.R.S.E. tournament was James Richburg, from Henderson, NV. He is 52 years old and spends most of his time managing his investments. Richburg is originally from Alabama and has three grown children.
H.O.R.S.E. is an acronym for five poker games commonly played in casinos – including Hold'em, Omaha High-Low, Razz, Seven-Card, and Stud High-Low Eight-or-Better. Given its multiplicity, the competition is widely acknowledged as the supreme test of overall poker savvy.
This was Richburg's second WSOP gold bracelet. He won the Razz championship last year. Richburg now has seven cashes in his career. He has won nearly half a million dollars in prize money at the World Series alone.
Richburg's first in-the-money finish at the WSOP was back in 1991. It is interesting to note that he went 15 years without a win, but has won gold bracelets in each of the last two years. First place paid $238,881.
This is believed to be the largest H.O.R.S.E. poker tournament in history (by number of entries). Sign-ups totaled 382. This was also the longest tournament of 2007 WSOP to date. After two long days, play on the third day went 13 hours and concluded at about 3:00 am.
