Event #9: No Limit Hold 'em
Location: Bally's/Paris Las Vegas
Buy-in: $1500 (+70)
Number of Entries: 180
Total Prize Money: $261,900
Players were eliminated as follows:
9th Place: Bill Gustafik, $5,238
Bill Gustafik went 'all in' early in the day and was called by Jon. He held A-5 and led Jon's K-Q. The flop of 8=8=3 helped no one, but a queen on the turn gave Jon top pair. Bill could not recover with a jack on the turn, and he finished the event in 9th place for a payday of $5,238.
8th Place: Fil Humphreys, $7,857
Under the gun, Fil went 'all in' with J-4 and was caught as he was called by Mark with A-K. With live cards, the flop of 10=6=2 kept Mark in the lead. A queen on the turn left Fil with a six outer to stay alive, but a king on the river ended his hopes, as he finished in 8th place and $7,857
7th Place: Jody Millhouse, $10,476
Jody Millhouse went 'all in' on the big blind with A-10 and was called by Mark who was already in the pot with A-Q. The flop of 6=6=A gave both players top pair, but the sixes on the board gave Jody extra outs to chop if a king or ace came, but an eight on the turn and seven on the river gave Mark the whole pot, and Jody the seventh place finish and $10,476.
6th Place: Ron Stanley, $13,095
Ron Stanley went all in with Ac-2c and Scott called with A-5. The flop of 8d=Ac=5c gave Scott top two, but gave Ron outs with the nut flush draw. A two of spades on the turn helped as well, but none of his outs came, as the river brought the ten of spades, sending Ron home in 6th place with $13,095.
5th Place: Mark Cole, $15,714
Before the flop Mark Cole was 'all in' with A-J, behind Scott who held pocket tens. No help on the flop as it brought 5=3=9. Still needing an ace or jack, the turn brought a four, diminishing his hopes even more. The king on the river was all she wrote, as Mark took home $15,714 for 5th place.
4th Place: Adrian Pitts, $20,952
Under the gun, Adrian Pitts pushed 'all in.' It didn't take much thought for Scott to call, as he held pocket aces. Adrian's K-3 needed some help, which he did not find with a flop of 4=6=9. Needing runner-runner, a two on the turn gave him the inside straight draw, but an ace on the river gave Scott the set of aces and Adrian a 4th place finish worth $20,952.
3rd Place: Jon Turner, $26,190
Scott limped in on the small blind and Jon Turner pushed it 'all in' with A-Q on the button. He was called quickly as Scott held pocket kings. The flop brought 5=10=J, giving Jon two outs with a king. The turn brought a three and the river a ten which gave Scott the pot, and Jon the 3rd place finish and $26,190.
Runner up: Scott Epstein, $47,666
1st Place: Men "The Master" Nguyen, $86,427
After an epic heads up battle that lasted over seven hours, we finally crowned a champion. Men limped in on the button and Scott pushed all in with 10-8. Men called quickly with pocket kings. The flop of 2=9=10 gave Scott hope, but the turn five and river seven were not the cards he was looking for. Scott Epstein finished in 2nd place, earning $47,666. Men "The Master" Nguyen took the event, earning his third WSOP Circuit ring, as well as $86,427.
