Elton Tsang put on a dominating performance on the final day of the 2016 Big One for One drop, winning the biggest buy-in tournament in poker history and pocketing €11,111,111 for his victory. Tsang entered the final day of competition third in chips, just slightly above average. But he took the chip lead on the second hand of the day. And after winning the third hand as well, he had more chips than any other player had at any point in the tournament. From that point on, he never looked back, slowly but consistently accumulating chips as his remaining opponents were eliminated, one by one. After about an hour of play heads-up against eventual runner up Anatoly Gurtovoy, Tsang secured his victory, earning earned the third largest first-place prize in poker history.

This was the third ever Big One for One Drop event, and the first ever held outside of Las Vegas. Instead, it was held in quite possibly the world’s most famous gambling establishment, the Casino de Monte Carlo on the coast of Monaco. The €1,000,000 buy-in event drew 28 entries for a prize pool €24,888,892. From each entry, 11.11% was donated to ONE DROP to support the organization’s global clean water access initiatives. That amounts to a donation of €3,111,108 (approximately $3,484,440). To date, the WSOP/ONE DROP partnership has produced over $17,000,000 worth of donations.

It was a David and Goliath story at the conclusion of this year’s $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop event. On one side of the table sat one of the giants of the game, Daniel Negreanu, battling for his third bracelet in two years and seventh overall. Surrounded by a massive rail of poker fans, he was the fan favorite with experience on his side. On the other side of the table was young online poker pro Daniel Colman, appearing at his first WSOP final table at just 23 years of age. While he is far from a household name, even among more fervent poker fans, he is nonetheless an accomplished player who had the skills to compete with the best. Colman proved those skills today, putting them to use at a tough final table that concluded with the heads-up battle against Negreanu and with Colman holding up the platinum one of a kind bracelet. Colman earns $15,306,668 for the victory, which rockets him up the all-time money list after starting today with just $159,010 in career tournament earnings. A Thrilling Big One For ONE DROP in 2012

It was so audacious that many people didn't think one table of poker players would show up. When the World Series of Poker along with renowned showman and philanthropist Guy Laliberte announced plans to host a $1,000,000 buy-in poker tournament as part of the 43rd Annual WSOP in 2012, it was met with plenty of skepticism. After all, the biggest previous buy-in record for a poker tournament was $250,000 and only 14 people participated. But betting against Laliberte is never a smart bet. With a cap of 48 players and an $18 million first place prize, the BIG ONE for ONE DROP from July 1-3, 2012 was a huge success.
