PRESS RELEASE

41 PLAYERS NOW CONFIRMED FOR BIG ONE FOR ONE DROP

$1 Million BUY-iN POKER EVENT RETURNS JUNE 29 - JULY 1st DURING 2014 WSOP

Las Vegas, June 17, 2014 - With a 56 player cap, players are moving fast to ensure they get a seat at the biggest poker game in the world. Just 15 seats remain open less than two weeks before cards officially hit the felt with organizers optimistic the event will be a sellout.

Several businessmen and poker players have anted the $1,000,000 buy-in to participate in the second installment of the The BIG ONE for ONE DROP which returns to the famed Amazon Room at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

The BIG ONE for ONE DROP will take place over three days, from June 29 to July 1, 2014, with play beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the Sunday starting day.

As part of the 45th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, The BIG ONE for ONE DROP is a $1,000,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em charity poker tournament limited to 56 players willing to put up the highest entry fee ever offered.

Later this month, a seat will be up for grabs for anyone interested for as little as $200. On June 28th at 6pm, the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas will hold a $25,300 satellite. Players will have no fewer than seven mega-satellite "step" opportunities, ranging from $200 to $3,750 on June 26th and June 27th to generate entry into the culminating $25,300 tournament with a Big One entry on the line.

The new participants are:

  • Daniel Cates - This Maryland poker pro has never cashed at the World Series of Poker, but earlier this year won nearly $1.8 million in a poker tournament in Monte Carlo. Known for his online poker prowess, the 25-year-old Cates enters this event for the first time.
  • Daniel Colman - This young poker pro from Massachusetts with four previous WSOP cashes also looks to take a $2 million score from a recent tournament in Monte Carlo and turn it into a possible $20 million payday in the Big One. It will be Colman's first appearance in this event.
  • Tom Hall - This businessman is no stranger to the game of poker, but for the first time has added his name to this event. "Hong Kong Tom" got his taste of the WSOP with his lone cash in a high roller event at WSOP Asia-Pacific in 2013. Often found playing in the cash games of Macau, Hall will make his WSOP Las Vegas debut in this event.
  • Isaac Haxton - This Las Vegas poker pro is a former Brown University student who pursued a computer science degree. He has won nearly $1.8 million at the WSOP in 24 previous cashes, but hopes to score his first bracelet by taking down the Big One.
  • Anonymous Businessman - This businessman has been known to play in some of the high stakes games in Macau, but will be coming to the WSOP for the first time to play in this event.
  • John Morgan - The CEO of Winmark Corporation in Minnesota, returns to the event after participating in 2012. Morgan is best remembered for getting his opponent to fold pocket eights in the inaugural Big One. Whether Morgan had a straight flush or not is still a mystery. Morgan is a successful businessman and philanthropist who only occasionally has time to dabble in poker tournaments.
  • Greg Merson - The 2012 WSOP Player of the Year and world champion was an accomplished online player who broke through on the live circuit in 2012, picking up two WSOP gold bracelets, both seven-figure scores, including a win in the biggest tournament in the world, the WSOP Main Event where he walked away with $8,531,853. Merson is just shy of $10 million in WSOP earnings and will play the Big One for the first time.
  • Daniel Negreanu - The only two-time WSOP Player of the Year, Negreanu had an incredible 2013, capturing two WSOP gold bracelets and cementing his legacy in the game. "Kid Poker" is poker's all-time leading money earner, has cashed 72 times at the WSOP, won 6 WSOP gold bracelets and earned more than $7 million in WSOP events. This Canadian poker pro now living in Las Vegas could nearly double his $21 million in lifetime earnings with a victory in the Big One.
  • Doug Polk - Another new entrant to this game is 25-year-old Las Vegas poker pro Doug Polk. Polk has been a regular in the high stakes online games and has six previous WSOP cashes, three this year already including winning his first WSOP gold bracelet earlier this month in the Turbo event.
  • Scott Seiver - Another new edition to the event, is 29-year old Las Vegas poker pro and WSOP gold bracelet champion Scott Seiver. The former Brown University student has won more than $10 million in his poker career, including a high roller victory in 2013 good for more than $2 million.
  • Talal Shakerchi - No stranger to big games around the world, this successful businessman from Great Britain likes to match his wits with the best players in the game. He has cashed five times previously at the WSOP and has nearly $1.8 million in live tournament earnings despite his minimal participation. Shakerchi played this event in 2012.

ESPN cameras will be on hand throughout the three-day event to document the drama over three consecutive weeks on ESPN beginning July 29. ESPN will air two-hour blocks as follows:

  • TUESDAY, JULY 29 - 8-10 P.M. ET - Day 1 and Day 2 action
  • TUESDAY, AUGUST 5 - 8-10 P.M. ET - Day 2 action, and final table bubble
  • TUESDAY, AUGUST 12 - 8-10 P.M. ET - Final table action through to winner

The entire list of names in the field can be found here: https://www.lnmandiya.com/2014/bigone/

The event seats are reserved on a first-come first-serve basis, with those providing a deposit guaranteeing their seat. The winner will also receive a special edition WSOP platinum bracelet by famed jeweler Richard Mille. The event is open to anyone 21 years or older.

With the new 56 player cap, the first place prize has the potential to reach in excess of $20,000,000 if every seat is filled. Any interested player who can verify funds is urged to contact Alex Meunier at One Drop ([email protected]).

The buy-in for The BIG ONE for ONE DROP at $1 million, remains the largest ever for a poker event. There will be no rake or house fees to operate the event, and $111,111 of each buy-in will be taken out as a charitable donation to ONE DROP. Thus, $888,889 goes directly into the prize pool.

The BIG ONE for ONE DROP is an unprecedented effort to raise awareness of water-related issues amongst the poker community and beyond to raise funds to allow ONE DROP to continue to deliver on its important mandate. Funds will be directed to ONE DROP projects around the world, where the team is hard at work at providing sustainable water access and helping communities flourish.

BIG ONE FOR ONE DROP ADDS ADDITIONAL TABLE OF PLAYERS, EXPANDS TELEVISION COVERAGE

$1 MILLION BUY-IN POKER EVENT RETURNS JUNE 29 - JULY 1ST DURING 2014 WSOP
SELBST BECOMES FIRST FEMALE; POTENTIAL $20 MILLION+ 1ST PLACE PRIZE

Las Vegas, May 12, 2014 - The second installment of the The BIG ONE for ONE DROP will return to the famed Amazon Room at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, as ESPN committed to producing multi-day coverage from the event comprising three consecutive weeks of prime-time coverage.

Ten new players have committed as well, including the first female, Vanessa Selbst.

"I'm so excited to be taking part in The BIG ONE for ONE DROP this year," said Selbst. "I didn't get to play in 2012, but after seeing how much fun everyone had with the event as well as how profound an impact it had on ONE DROP, I knew I had to be a part of it this time around."

Perhaps the most unlikely player to register early is former Survivor contestant Jean-Robert Bellande, known to poker fans as 'BrokeLivingJRB.' Bellande recently turned heads sending an Instagram photo of a new Bentley, and was reported to post his buy-in deposit with bricks of cash from a gym bag.

As part of the 45th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, The BIG ONE for ONE DROP is a $1,000,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em charity poker tournament limited to 56 players willing to put up the highest entry fee ever offered.

  • TUESDAY, AUGUST 12 - 8-10 P.M. ET - Final table action through to winner

"With the unthinkable stakes of The BIG ONE for ONE DROP and its colorful mix of early committees, we are thrilled ESPN has embraced the opportunity to truly showcase a seminal moment for poker that just may yield the biggest first prize in sports television history," said WSOP Executive Director Ty Stewart.

Another way into the field will be via a comprehensive live satellite system. On June 28th at 6pm, the Rio will hold a $25,300 satellite. Players will have no fewer than seven mega-satellite "step" opportunities, ranging from $200 to $3,750 on June 26th and June 27th to generate entry into the culminating $25,300 tournament with potentially the final Big One entry on the line.

Since the WSOP and ONE DROP previously announced commitments from 23 to participate, a flood of new reservations have come in. An additional ten players have confirmed their entry, bringing our current total to 33 entrants. This means less than three tables -- only 23 seats remain.

Of the ten new participants, nine are first-time entrants in this event. They are:

  • Vanessa Selbst - Largely considered the best female player in the game today, Selbst breaks new ground again, becoming the first female to confirm her participation in the event. She's a two-time WSOP gold bracelet winner and a Yale University graduate. The Brooklyn-born Selbst ranks second all-time in WSOP earnings by a female.
  • Jean-Robert Bellande - He once was featured on the reality TV hit show Survivor: China trying to win a million dollar first place prize. Now he will put up a million dollars to try and win potentially $20 million. We will see if one of the most colorful players in the game has what it takes to outlast, outwit and outplay the competition.
  • Anthony Gregg - The Maryland poker pro won last year's One Drop High Rollers event at the WSOP, turning his $100,000 entry fee into a $4.8 million payday and captured his first WSOP gold bracelet.
  • Fabian Quoss - The German poker pro has only two cashes to his name at the WSOP, his biggest a second place finish in 2009 good for $427,912. But Quoss is no stranger to high buy-in events, and he should feel right at home in this high stakes game despite being a first-timer.
  • Max Altergott - This young German pro has never cashed in a WSOP event before, or anywhere in North America. Altergott won nearly $2.3 million in a poker tournament in Monte Carlo one year ago and looks to translate his recent success into the biggest game in the world.
  • Tobias Reinkemeier - Reinkemeier played in the inaugural Big One event and is the only one of the new confirmed names to have played the event previously. Sitting third on the all-time German player poker money list, Reinkemeier has three previous WSOP cashes to his credit.
  • Igor Kurganov - This Russian poker pro sits atop the all-time Russian money list, and has final tabled high roller events in Macau, Melbourne and Monte Carlo. The first-time Big One entrant hopes to make his first WSOP final table. Kurganov cashed for the first time at last year's WSOP, finishing 11th in the $25,000 buy-in 6-handed No-Limit Hold'em event.
  • Christoph Vogelsang - Another German player, Vogelsang has only two previously recorded cashes in major poker tournaments and both have come in the last year. He has never played in a WSOP event before and will make his debut in the largest buy-in event on the schedule.
  • Niklas Heinecker - Perhaps it is the Pius Heinz effect. As the winner of the 2011 WSOP Main Event, Heinz from Germany, has really helped push the game of poker to new heights in his home country. Heinecker becomes the sixth German poker pro to enter this event. Heinecker comes in as the winningest player in online poker in 2013, amassing $6,190,599 in earnings - more than twice as much as the next highest finisher. Heinecker has three previous WSOP cashes, including an 80th place showing in the 2007 WSOP Main Event for $106,382.
  • Anonymous Asian Businessman - The last of the newcomers, will be a first-time Big One for One Drop participant looking for his first-ever WSOP cash. While he asked that his identity be kept confidential for now, he's sure to be one of the most intriguing additions to the event this year.

PRESS RELEASE

WORLD SERIES OF POKER & ONE DROPTM ANNOUNCE THE RETURN OF THE BIG ONE FOR ONE DROP

$1 MILLION BUY-IN POKER EVENT RETURNS JUNE 29 - JULY 1ST DURING 2014 WSOP
POTENTIAL $20 MILLION+ 1ST PLACE PRIZE UP FOR GRABS

Las Vegas, October 18, 2013 - As part of the 45th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas, the ONE DROP organization and the WSOP are proud to announce the return of the $1,000,000 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em charity poker tournament - the BIG ONE for ONE DROP - to the 2014 schedule.

The BIG ONE for ONE DROP will take place over three days, from June 29 to July 1, 2014, with all play until the televised final table being hosted at Caesars Palace.

After the inaugural event sold out, organizers have added one additional table to the 2014 event, allowing for up to 56 philanthropists, business executives and poker sharps to take to the felt. (All tables are played 8-handed).

With the new 56 player cap, the first place prize has the potential to reach in excess of $20,000,000 if every seat is filled. Additionally, the odds of cashing are better than a typical poker tournament, with 16-20% of entrants receiving a portion of the prize pool, depending on the final number of entrants.

The event will be reserved on a first-come first-serve basis, with those providing a deposit guaranteeing their seat. The winner will also receive a special edition WSOP platinum bracelet by famed jeweler Richard Mille. The event is open to anyone 21 years or older.

There are only 55 seats left up for grabs, as ONE DROP founder Guy Laliberté has already declared his intent to play. (He finished 5th in 2012, cashing for $1,834,666, after being knocked out by Antonio Esfandiari when his pair of Queens lost to Antonio's Ace-King when a King came on the turn).

"It was a terrific inaugural event in 2012 with ONE DROP raising nearly $5.7 million from the BIG ONE event," said Laliberté. "There is still a lot of work to be done to ensure access to water for all. I have no doubt that the poker community will once again live up to its reputation for generosity by helping to transform lives sustainably." The buy-in for the BIG ONE for ONE DROP at $1 million, remains the largest ever for a poker event. There will be no rake or house fees to operate the event, and $111,111 of each buy-in will be taken out as a charitable donation to ONE DROP. Thus, $888,889 goes directly into the prize pool.

In total, nearly $10 million from the inaugural $42.6 million prize pool ended up in the hands of charities.

Here is a video of players making a ONE DROP charitable visit after the inaugural event:

"This event quickly established itself as special and unique and for that reason we chose to make it an every other year affair," said Mitch Garber, Caesars Interactive Entertainment's chief executive officer. "But we can't wait to host it again in 2014 and continue to use this vehicle to impact the planet through ONE DROP's platform."

The tournament brings together individuals in an unusual way for the cause of water for all. It is the belief of the organizers that this event will again attract high-net-worth individuals from all over the globe and across a wide range of businesses and occupations.

The BIG ONE for ONE DROP is an unprecedented effort to raise awareness of water-related issues amongst the poker community and beyond to raise funds to allow ONE DROP to continue to deliver on its important mandate. Funds will be directed to ONE DROP projects around the world, where the team is hard at work dealing with water access.

Poker players, with a long, consistent and successful track record of supporting charitable causes via poker tournaments, will still have an opportunity to join the cause, as all 2014 WSOP tournaments will include the chance to compete for huge prize pools with money earners in the events being encouraged to donate 1% or more of their winnings to ONE DROP.

The schedule for the 45th annual World Series of Poker is currently being developed, with an expectation for a "Save the Dates" announcement in November.

Since 2007, ONE DROP projects have changed the lives of more than 300,000 people in Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Haiti, India and West Africa. In the next five years, with great fundraising activities, ONE DROP hopes to significantly increase its reach.

A Thrilling Big One For ONE DROP in 2012

Antonio Esfandiari (USA)

It was so audacious that many people didn't think one table of poker players would show up. When the World Series of Poker along with renowned showman and philanthropist Guy Laliberte announced plans to host a $1,000,000 buy-in poker tournament as part of the 43rd Annual WSOP in 2012, it was met with plenty of skepticism. After all, the biggest previous buy-in record for a poker tournament was $250,000 and only 14 people participated. But betting against Laliberte is never a smart bet. With a cap of 48 players and an $18 million first place prize, the BIG ONE for ONE DROP from July 1-3, 2012 was a huge success. Antonio Esfandiari captured the victory and the first-ever platinum bracelet, while ESPN cameras captured the action live to households across America.
